What is Marketing?
Our MSc in Marketing provides you with an in-depth knowledge of marketing from both an academic and practical perspective. The programme helps you develop the necessary problem-solving and decision-making skills to address contemporary marketing challenges successfully.
The MSc supports you in progressing your career, whether that is working in the marketing industry or applying marketing principles to your own business.
You’ll engage with businesses of all types and sizes and learn more about marketing in the commercial world. You’ll also explore a diverse the range of marketing practices, respond to commercial design briefs and engage directly with businesses. This allows you to investigate marketing communication, marketing research, international strategic marketing, digital-marketing and brand management issues as well as learning to understand customers and their needs.
We work closely with local businesses through the on-site Growth Hub, offering you plenty of opportunities to engage with businesses of all types and sizes. You can also participate in real-life consultancy projects to support a wide range of organisations with their marketing development through our student consultancy service: ‘Three Sixty’.
Based in our new, purpose-built Business School at our Oxstalls Campus, Gloucester, we have a dedicated Consumer Behaviour Lab that you can use to carry out consumer, advertising and online data research. This space enables you to develop your practical learning, and skills, and understand diverse consumer behaviours and purchase decisions. Research performed in the lab can form part of your dissertation, be used in assignments, or help with your professional development.
The vocational focus of this course means it’s perfect if you’re looking to move into marketing or if you want to build upon existing marketing expertise.
Study style
Assessments involve you developing academic arguments as well as marketing writing, advertising design and marketing campaign development skills.
The course culminates in a dissertation or a marketing case project, enabling you to specialise in an area of marketing that you find particularly fascinating, and which you may wish to pursue in your marketing career.
If you have a relevant postgraduate diploma or professional award (such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Professional Postgraduate Diploma), then you may be able to join this programme at an advanced level.
