What will I learn?

This programme results in a national qualification that is recognised by a number of professional Institutions such as The Institution of Mechanical Engineers. It covers a broad range of fields from mechanical principles and engineering science, through to business management and thermodynamics - supported by practical activities in laboratories. On successful completion, you will have developed the necessary skills required to work in industry at a senior level across a number of technical disciplines such as design and development, production and commissioning and testing.

Methods of learning and teaching are designed to support students in becoming active members of a learning community. Students will be expected to work together in an informal environment as well as in formal classes where a culture of dignity, courtesy and mutual respect with staff and their peers is essential. A variety of methods will be used such as lectures, workshops, student led seminars and practical sessions. Integrating a work-based or placement opportunity, students will be visited in the workplace by a member of Institute staff to ensure a positive partnership between the employer mentor and to monitor that learning in the workplace is effective. Workplace learning is designed to support the development of an employable graduate equipped with the attributes, skills and knowledge to progress within a global market.
