What will I learn?

This course covers topics such as mineral deposit studies, petroleum geology, minerals engineering, accounting, mathematical techniques in finance, and project management. It covers mineral deposit studies, resource evaluation, basic petroleum engineering and petroleum geology, minerals engineering and extractive metallurgy, accounting, mathematical techniques in finance, project appraisal and finance, project management, and markets and supplies. You will be introduced to key technical and geological concepts relevant to petroleum projects, as well as receiving an introduction to quantitative finance, accounting and strategic management within the context of technical principles that apply specifically to mineral and energy projects. This degree is professionally accredited by The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. Our MSc in Metals and Energy Finance produces graduates equipped to pursue careers in the technical and financial appraisal of natural energy and mineral resource projects. The course offers traditional minerals-related training directly applicable to a career in the minerals industry. This programme aims to enhance career opportunities in the financial services and petroleum industries. Assessment involves the following: Coursework; Syndicate exercises (group work); detailed appraisal sheets from the field trips and Dissertations (both proposal and finished piece).

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree. The minimum requirement is based on the university's selectivity ranking; from the most competitive we look for a minimum cumulative GPA of 3/4 to 3.25/4 or better. From other mainstream universities we look for a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4 or better. Departments may require a higher grade from particular institutions.

For international students

Students need to have a minimum requirement of 2.1 degree in engineering, physical sciences or economics with a substantial mathematics component. Appropriate experience, while not essential, would be an advantage All candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency for admission to the College. Standard IELTS 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in all elements).
