What will I learn?

The Department of Environment and Geography also offers an MSc by Research degree, where students follow an approved programme of research supervised by a member of academic staff. The thesis is assessed solely on the basis of that research by two individually appointed examiners.

Research in this programme is focussed on:

  • Pollution effects upon soil/plant/water ecosystems
  • Evaluation of critical loads and levels of pollutants
  • Modelling of atmospheric chemistry processes

  • Pathways and impacts of agricultural pollutants.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

For a postgraduate taught course such as a Masters, you would normally need a Bachelors degree from a recognised institution. Typically you would need at least the equivalent to a UK upper second class honours degree, however some courses will accept lower second class honours degrees. Actual requirements will vary by course: A score of 3.2 out of 4.0 is considered comparable to a UK 2:1; A score of 2.8 out of 4.0 is considered comparable to a UK 2:2.

For international students

A relevant Masters degree; GSCE/IGCSE in English Language: C. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to ensure that they meet the University’s minimum language requirements, which are IELTS: 6.5 (in the 'Academic' test) Listening - 6.0, Reading - 6.0, Speaking - 6.0, Writing - 6.0. TOEFL: 79 with a minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing.
