What will I learn?

The Government has targeted the presence of a physical education specialist in every primary school as part of a drive to increase healthy lifestyles.

This PGCE provides you with a high-quality initial teacher education experience. It will prepare you to teach the whole national curriculum across the 5-11 age range in key stages 1 and 2 while developing a specific specialism in primary physical education. Spending a significant amount of time undertaking professional practice placements in schools and other educational settings, you will be supported in meeting the Teachers’ Standards, gaining the professional skills, knowledge, understanding and attitudes necessary for a successful two-year induction as an early career teacher.

Graduating as a primary physical education specialist, you will model excellent practice and be ready to lead colleagues in the development of enriching, engaging and challenging PE lessons which will inspire and enthuse children.

Career Prospects

This PGCE is accredited by the Department for Education. Successful completion of the programme will enable you to gain recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). You will be well placed to progress into employment as a newly qualified teacher in a primary school.
