What will I learn?

Course Overview

This Master's degree in Sport Coaching engages coaches and teachers in the process of applying theory to their practice and aims to develop reflective practitioners with the ability to effectively manage pedagogic problems. It offers a unique opportunity for professional and career development, focusing on applied and experiential learning within a community of practice.

Assessment

All module assessment is based on 5,000 word assignments or equivalent. Presentations are also assessed in some of the core and optional modules. Students can exit at Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma levels.

Employability & Careers

Students from this course have developed careers in sport coaching, teaching, sport science support, further and higher education, and sports development. The programme also provides an excellent spring board for students wishing to progress to the taught doctorate in Sport Coaching, MPhil/PhD or Professional Doctorate study.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students with a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in USA with minimum GPA 2.8 or above or students with a good GPA and relevant work experience over 1 year or students with a Bachelor degree from a recognised institution in the UK or Masters degree. Students need to have an 6.0 overall with no sub score lower than 5.5. Some courses may require a higher IELTS level.

For international students

Application should have an honours degree (normally 2.1 or above) in a related subject area together with appropriate teaching/coaching experience. Non-graduates whose lack of formal qualifications is compensated for by their age and relevant coaching experience will also be considered. Applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of fluency to at least an IELTS 6.5 standard or equivalent. TOEFL IBT: Overall - 95; Reading - 24; Speaking - 25; Listening - 22; Writing - 24.
