Welsh, MPhil

UK

What will I learn?

A PhD or MPhil in Welsh enables you to undertake a substantial project rooted in your own passions and interests.

It leads to a highly respected qualification which can present a pathway to a career in academia, or widen your scope for employment in fields such as education, government bodies or the private sector.

The PhD takes three years full-time or six years part-time and the MPhil takes two years full-time or four years part-time.

The Research Excellence Framework 2014 adjudged that 100% of the Welsh Department's research work was of a world-class standard or better, and that 69% of the work submitted was of international standard or world-leading. This is the best result among Welsh departments that presented their work individually to the research survey.

Welsh research specialities at Swansea include:

Bilingualism and language planning
Theory of literature
Translation techniques and technology
Literature over the centuries

Your project will be agreed in consultation with supervisors and we recommend these discussions are started before applying, to help draw up an initial proposal.
