What will I learn?

This programme enables students to progress from the FdSc qualification to a full BSc Honours Degree in Wildlife and Conservation Management. Knowledge , understanding and skills gained will be developed and applied to explore current and future issues in wildlife and conservation management. Graduates from this course will be able to demonstrate key skills required by employers for more senior roles within the sector.**What will I study?**- Conservation biology- Reserve management- Landscape conservation- Management and business in conservation- Dissertation.There is a strong emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to practical situations using the excellent range of habitats both on the college estate and in the local area. The programme content is designed to be appropriate to the needs of the sector. You will have the opportunity to specialise through the Dissertation, which is 10,000 words on a relevant subject area.**Learning and Teaching Approach**This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all student learning styles and preferences. There is a strong emphasis on active learning with seminars, workshops, field work and site visits, case studies, work-based learning, independent learning, formative assessment and guest speaker sessions. These are combined with theory lectures that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge.Teaching methods focus on facilitating a student-centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Independence and the ability to make decisions, problem solve and manage projects are required in the conservation and ecology sector.**Contact Time**Approximately 12 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, practicals and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week).A part-time option is also available.Students can expect to receive their timetables during induction week. **What else can I expect?**- Additional facilities include Science Centre, IT suites, dedicated University Centre, study spaces and social areas, and modern Learning Resources Centre.- Online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) used to enhance and facilitate teaching and independent learning on all programmes.- Experienced, supportive and motivated staff with both academic and industrial experience.- Our experienced Life Coaches are on hand to help you through your University journey from mentoring and coaching to health, wellbeing and resilience.
