What will I learn?

A.S. degree prepares students with advanced skills for an entry-level position in automotive engine diagnostics.

Student Learning Outcomes - upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of four-stroke engine theory, basic safe machining practices, estimates and repair orders, and engine assembly.
  • Identify the basic electrical circuits and diagnose automotive electrical systems.
  • Apply the basic principles of physics as they work in the automotive industry.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must be 18 years old to attend college. Students who are younger than 18 (but at least 16 before first day of classes) can attend with proof of secondary/high school completion or the equivalent.

A minimum score on any of the following examinations is required for admission (exam must have been taken in the last 2 years):

TOEFL - 61 iBT (De Anza College ETS code is 4286) or TOEFL PBT 46 or higher

IELTS - 6.0

iTEP - Level 4

EIKEN - 2A

Duolingo - 95 DET (50 DET older version)

Pearson PTE Academic - 45

Cambridge - 175+ on advanced or proficiency exam
