What will I learn?

Bridge engineers develop the infrastructure that connects communities. They need to be prepared to develop bridges using new construction methods and components, improve the seismic resiliency of bridges and deal with the problems associated with aging infrastructure. Our bridge engineering options prepare students to take on leadership roles in enhancing bridges and infrastructure around the world.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions.

For international students

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum GPA of 3.0

International applicants must demonstrate understanding of English as shown by one of the following:

Minimum TOEFL scores of 550 for the paper-based test (our department prefers closer to 600) or 79 for the Internet-based test (our department prefers closer to 100); IELTS with a minimum score of 6.5 with no individual sub-score below 6.0; or the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) scores.
Minimum PTE Academic score of 55 will be required with no individual section below 50. In addition, we now accept the Cambridge English Advanced (CEA) and the Cambridge English Proficiency (CEP) tests. The minimum University requirement for both of these new tests is 185 overall on the new scoring scale.
