What will I learn?

The Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology program provides an opportunity to acquire specific knowledge and develop skills necessary to perform accepted standards of an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology practice. This 36-month residency program is intended for those planning to teach or practice Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

About the Program

Successful completion of this program leads to certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and eligibility to take the examination given by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Emphasis is placed on microscopic and clinical diagnoses as well as the proper management of oral and maxillofacial lesions.

Facilities available for the program include the School of Dental Medicine clinics and laboratories, and vast research facilities in association with the Oral Biology Department, university-affiliated hospitals, hospital clinics and laboratories.

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions.

For international students

The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) Old Scale is 60, New Scale is 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) Old Scale is 65, New Scale is 185.
