What will I learn?

The Chinese program provides students opportunities to acquire Chinese language proficiency, cultural awareness, and critical thinking skills so that they can be global citizens and succeed in various professions in the United States and abroad. Additionally, all of the courses meet general education and/or major requirements at the four-year universities.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

Interpret a passage of native spoken Chinese in a variety of contexts and formats.

Read and interpret written material in Chinese of at least four paragraphs in length.

Write a four-paragraph essay in Chinese, clearly and accurately, in a variety of contexts.

Entry requirements

For international students

All applicants must provide proof of graduation from high school (or equivalent) in the form of official records/transcripts with certified English translation (if necessary). Students should submit transcripts from all years of study at the high school level. Students may also submit the GED or HISET to fulfill this requirement.

English proficiency can be met by submitting one of the following English proficiency tests:

(Official exam scores must not be more than two years old)

TOEFL: 52 iBT or 470 paper based test (IVC institution code is 4773)

IELTS: 4.5

iTEP 3.5

CAMBRIDGE ENGLISH 160 (B2 First, C1 Advanced)

PEARSON 41

EIKEN: Grade 2A

GTEC CBT: 900

Applications for admission will be processed beginning on the following dates:

Fall semester: July 1

Spring semester: December 1

Summer session: April 10
