What will I learn?

The elementary/early childhood education program at Maryville prepares students to be certified in both early childhood (Birth-grade 3) and elementary education (Grades 1-6). Classes, field experiences, an early childhood area of concentration and a general education contribute to a broad-based elementary and early childhood teacher preparation program.

Maryville’s School of Education has been recognized for its work at the elementary and early childhood level by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, various local school districts and as part of John Goodland’s National Network for Educational Renewal.

A minimum of 42 credit hours of general education courses is required for the Elementary Education (Grades 1-6) and Early Childhood Education (Grades PreK-3) double major, B.A. degree. Some of the courses listed below are required to fulfill the general education requirements and others may be used as electives. Other courses not listed below may also be considered to fulfill electives that comprise the General Education requirements.
