What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental sciences emphasizes a combination of social science, humanities and natural sciences. The B.A. in environmental sciences prepares students for entry-level positions in many diverse fields, including urban and regional planning, environmental impact analysis, natural resource management, environmental education, conservation administration, energy policy, public interest lobbying, social science law, government and business.

Oral Communication Requirement:

To satisfy the oral communication requirement for the B.A. or B.S. degree in Environmental Sciences, a student must successfully complete EVS 495.

Applied Learning Requirement:

To satisfy the applied learning requirement for the B.A. or the B.S. degree in Environmental Sciences, a student must successfully complete one of the following: honors in any approved department related to EVS or EVS 499 (6 credits); directed individual study involving hands-on experience in any approved department related to EVS or EVS 491 (minimum 1 credit); practical experience in the profession (minimum 1 credit) in EVS 488, EVS 490, EVS 496, EVS 497, or EVS 498; or formal student teaching experience (e.g. EDN 411).

General Core Requirements for all Environmental Sciences Majors:

All students wishing to become Environmental Sciences majors must successfully complete general core requirements before admittance into the major.

Requirements for a Major in Environmental Sciences for the B.A. Degree:

68 hours total, comprised of the General Core plus option requirements.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must complete their high school. A minimum 2.5 GPA on a U.S. scale of 4.0 is required. Applicants whose secondary school work is from outside the US are exempt from Minimum Course Requirements.

English Proficiency

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - minimum score of 71 on the Internet-based exam.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - minimum score of 6.0 on the academic module. Scores older than two (2) years will not be accepted
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) - minimum score of 54
  • Pearson PTE - minimum score 54
