What will I learn?

The Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering is broad-based, encompassing a wide range of materials, and enables students to understand the scientific principles that govern the relationships among processing, structure, properties, and materials performance. Students also learn how to integrate these principles in the systematic design of new materials.

This undergraduate degree is accredited by the Engineering Commission of ABET, and it is intended for students who are interested in becoming practicing engineers or continuing on with graduate study.


Our curriculum provides students with the core materials science and engineering fundamentals, while offering the option to select one of these seven areas of concentration:

  • Biomaterials
  • Design and manufacturing
  • Electronic materials
  • Energy materials
  • Metals and ceramics
  • Nanomaterials
  • Polymeric materials
  • Surface science


Graduates are well prepared to practice as materials scientists and engineers, excel in graduate study, work to advance the field, or apply their knowledge in other areas, including include law, medicine, or business.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

International applicants whose primary language is not English or whose secondary school curriculum has not been in English must submit exam results from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

For international students

Applicant must have secondary school record or college record and written statements. Official TOEFL or IELTS scores required for whose first language is not English or whose schooling has not been in English.
