What will I learn?

Integrated New Media Studies (INMS) at Indiana University South Bend is a uniquely interdisciplinary academic program of excellence in the rapidly developing field of new media. The computer and computer technologies are at the core of our program, the means of preparation, production, exhibition, application, and distribution. Our mission is to educate our students in a wide range of new media professional, creative, and critical/aesthetic skills, and in techniques, processes, and procedures applicable to careers in art, communication, business, industry, government, and the professions.

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrated New Media Studies with a Concentration in Interactive Media build on History and Aesthetics, Core Studies, and current related software to train in multimedia interactivity applied to the internet, digital gaming, 3D modeling, and motion graphics. 15 cr. of free electives provide space to expand on the student's Interactive Media concentration, to pursue a minor, or explore other areas.

Students receiving the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree must complete 120 total credit hours including:

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a score of at least 630 on the General Educational Development (GED) test. English Language Requirements: Minimum TOEFL score of 71 or higher on the internet-based; TOEFL score 530 or higher paper-based exam; IELTS - 6.0 or higher; Pearson Test of English, Academic: 48 or higher; WAEC's Senior Secondary Certificate of Examinations (SSCE): A or B; Ordinary Level Certificate: A or B; Cambridge International O Levels: C or higher; (Test in Practical English Proficiency) "EIKEN": Pre-1 or higher.

For international students

Students who have not attended college or university after graduating from high school and wish to earn a first bachelor’s degree are first-year students. Students who took dual-enrolled college coursework while still in high school are also considered first-year students. In general, we recommend that students complete college preparatory coursework that includes: Eight semesters of English or the language of instruction, Six to eight semesters of mathematics, Six to eight semesters of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), Six semesters of social science (economics, government, history, psychology, or sociology), Eight semesters of foreign language, fine arts, computer science, or technical skills, Two semesters of health, physical education, or safety.

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) paper based - 530 or higher
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - 6.0 or higher

  • SAT I Critical Reading - 450 or higher (or the equivalency on the new evidence-based reading and writing section)
