Lehigh’s undergraduate major in statistics and data science provides students with an education in mathematical principles, especially probability theory, which underlie all statistical analyses. Statistical analysis forms a fundamental tool in all experimental sciences and is important in understanding chance phenomena. In recent years, Lehigh has had approximately 10 to 15 math majors graduating each year, which means classes are small, so students get to know their professors and classmates well.The B.S. program in Statistics and Data Science at Lehigh University provides a body of principles for designing the process of data collection, for summarizing and interpreting data, and for drawing valid conclusions from data. Mathematical principles, especially probability theory, underlie all statistical analyses. Statistics forms a fundamental tool in the natural and social sciences as well as business, medicine and other areas of research.
