What will I learn?

Western Michigan University’s sport management concentration is designed to prepare you to work in sport organizations at the interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional and recreational levels. As a student in this program, you will take courses in many different departments within the University to gain the background required to enter the field of sport management. This program requires a minor in coaching, communication, event management, general business, journalism or another related minor with faculty approval.If you choose to major in sport management at WMU, you will be encouraged to work with area sport organizations, either as part of a class or as a paid or volunteer employee. You will be given multiple opportunities to get involved with sport organizations at the University and other local schools and agencies, as well as professional sport organizations within Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas.As a sport management student at WMU, you will be required to complete a supervised practicum of 225 hours to allow you to get a feeling for the field. Upon completion of your coursework, a 600-hour internship will be required, which may be completed in Kalamazoo or with any sport organization in the world.

Entry requirements

For international students

A first-year applicant is a student who is applying for admission and who has not attempted or earned any college credit after graduating from high school/secondary school (or earned equivalent).

Minimum English proficiency test scores:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 71 iBT

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.0

Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 48

Michigan English Test (MET): 48

Application deadlines:

Fall: June 15; Spring: October 15
