The Ph.D. in Chemistry at New York Tech is designed to meet the growing demand for highly trained chemists, particularly in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and environmental science sectors. Build advanced knowledge and research skills to address critical challenges in various scientific and industrial fields and prepare to lead research and innovation efforts in academia, industry, and government.Research is the cornerstone of the Ph.D. in Chemistry at New York Tech you’ll engage in a full-time residency requirement to ensure an immersive, research-intensive environment from the first semester onward. Gain exposure to sophisticated research methodologies, including advanced instrumentation, experimental techniques, and computational modeling, as appropriate to their area of focus.New York Tech ensures that students stay at the forefront of academic and industry innovation with access to state-of-the-art computer facilities, research equipment, laboratories, and libraries. In addition to major renovations to laboratories and offices and the development of additional core research facilities, we regularly acquire the latest in research equipment. The Long Island libraries also have innovation/maker hubs that house collaborative workspaces and a variety of equipment, including 3-D printers, Raspberry Pi kits, digital cameras, 360 and Go-Pro cameras, and virtual reality headsets.

Entry requirements

For international students

The Chemistry, Ph.D., has specific admissions requirements, including:

  • A strong academic background in chemistry or a related field
  • Demonstrated participation in previous research projects, authorship on peer-reviewed publications, and/or work in relevant fields
  • Strong letters of recommendation highlighting your research potential and academic excellence
  • For students with a B.S., a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 from a regionally accredited university
  • For students with an M.S., a minimum GPA of 3.5/4.0 from a regionally accredited university
  • A minimum GRE score of 300 is required
