The DDS program at the School of Dental Medicine provides students with the basic science training, clinical expertise, and analytical skills necessary to attain the highest level of proficiency as a practitioner. Our graduates practice across the country, in many different settings, in all areas of dental medicine-as general practitioners and specialists in private practice, as dental researchers, health-care administrators, teachers in dental schools, and managers in the private sector.

Program Overview

The DDS program at the School of Dental Medicine provides students with the basic science training, clinical expertise and analytical skills necessary to attain the highest level of proficiency as a practitioner.

What to Expect Each Year

The University at Buffalo four-year DDS curriculum educates our students to become strong clinicians and compassionate health care providers. During these four years, students work both their class cohort and faculty to obtain skills required to deliver comprehensive oral health care.

Research, Clinics and Preclinical Simulation Facilities

In addition to classroom learning, you’ll have valuable opportunities to learn about new research, work closely with patients and practice your skills in the lab.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or higher) or the equivalent from an accredited/government recognized college or university. Most such degrees will be four or more years in length; UB recognizes some three-year degrees, but not all; A B-grade (GPA of 3.0) or higher from your bachelor's degree (or equivalent) courses. Grade point averages from non-U.S. universities will be evaluated by UB's Office of International Admissions.

For international students

Applicants must complete a minimum of 90 credit hours of study at an accredited U.S. or Canadian college or university prior to enrollment in the DDS program. Students are strongly encouraged to earn a bachelor’s degree prior to enrollment in the DDS program. Students who will not earn a bachelor’s degree prior to enrollment must demonstrate a higher level of academic performance.

Dental Admission Test (DAT).

English Language Requirements:

The minimum score of TOEFL IBT is 79, the minimum score TOEFL PBT is 550, the minimum score of IELTS is 6.5, the minimum score of PTE is 55, the minimum score of Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) Old Scale is 60, New Scale is 185, the minimum score of Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) Old Scale is 65, New Scale is 185.
