What will I learn?

As a marketing major in the Management PhD program, you will receive specialized training in behavioral, quantitative and marketing strategy domains, giving you the ability to create new knowledge in marketing.

Some of examples of the types of questions you will investigate include:

  • What is the optimal price to charge for a product?
  • What is the most effective way to control the flow of products between the firm, its suppliers and its customers?
  • How does product labeling influence purchase?
  • How do consumers react to different marketing stimuli such as price, advertising content, display etc.?
  • How do consumers learn to use new and complex products? How does their learning translate to marketplace behavior?
  • How does social media usage influence consumer behavior and/or firm strategy?

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Admission to the doctoral program generally requires a Master’s degree in geography or a cognate field of study. The department will occasionally consider outstanding students holding only a Bachelor's degree for admission directly to the doctoral program. GPA requirements: 2.9 Undergraduate GPA for admission to MA/MS; 3.0 Undergraduate GPA for admission to Phd.

For international students

International applicants must have completed an academic program equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree prior to enrolling. Students may apply during the final year of such a degree program, but must furnish proof of graduation before the end of the first semester of enrollment.

The university requires a score of 6.5 overall with no section less than 6.0. The university has established minimum acceptable scores at a 73 total and a minimum of 68 on each of the individual sections of the PTE.
