What will I learn?

The Doctorate in Educational Leadership Program is designed to produce exemplary educational leaders for schools, community colleges, and related areas within education. Graduates of this program will be prepared to lead in educational environments that promote learning, equity, and achievement for all students.

Three major core curricular elements form the basis of the California State University, Sacramento Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy program:

  • Leadership
  • Research Methods
  • Field-based Study.

In addition, three key curricular themes provide the focus for all coursework in the program:

  • Transformational Leadership
  • Critical Policy Analysis and Action
  • Informed Decision-Making

The program is an interdisciplinary collaboration between two departments — Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and Public Policy and Administration.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants must have Master’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education with a grade point average in upper division and graduate study of 3.0 or above.

For international students

The Ed.D. Program requires the following of applicants for admission to the doctoral program:

an earned baccalaureate degree and master's degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution of higher education with a grade point average in upper division and graduate study of 3.0 or above.

English Language Proficiency Requirement: TOEFL - Score of 550 (paper based test), Score of 80 (internet based), IELTS (Academic) - Overall band score of 6.5, PTE Academic - Score of 65.

For Fall admissions, application opens on October 1 of the previous year.
