What will I learn?

This certificate, which can be completed in as few as four courses, offers students an opportunity to get hands-on training in the in-demand field of Geographic Information Systems. Students will master skills that are valued across many career fields, including urban & regional planners, policy analysts, construction managers, surveyors, cartographers, geographers, mapping technicians and others. UNO puts the latest technology in students’ hands so they are prepared for both the job market and the job itself. The skillset provided by the GIS Certificate program will enable you to work on major projects such as real estate site selection, route/corridor selection, evacuation planning, conservation, natural resource extraction, and more.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or a 4-year degree equivalent from a recognized institution of higher learning abroad. Minimum GPA Requirements: 2.5 grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for all undergraduate coursework; 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4-point scale for all graduate coursework.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Internet-based test score of 79 total or Computer-based test score of 550; The International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall band score of 6.5; PTE (Pearson Tests of English) Academic score of 58; IELP Intensive English Language Program: Satisfactory completion of the Intensive English Language Program at UNO; Minimum Scores on IELP Test: Listening Comprehension: 70; Grammar/Reading/Vocabulary: 63; Writing/Composition: 75.

Application Deadline: Spring Admission: November 15; Summer Admission: May 1; Fall Admission: July 1.
