What will I learn?

The Graduate Certificate in TESL/TEFL consists of two prerequisites and 12 graduate credits. Courses are designed to provide basic preparation in teaching English to speakers of other languages in a variety of setting. Students may do a stand-alone certificate or apply to do a graduate certificate in addition to a masters or doctoral program. Students applying for the program can transfer in up to 9 credits taken at ISU as a graduate nondegree undeclared student (if grade of B or above) before admission to the certificate program. At least 3 credits must be earned towards the certificate requirements after admission (the same semester or a later semester). Entry requirements

For international students

Iowa State requires a bachelors or higher degree from a regionally-accredited college or university prior to beginning graduate studies.

International degrees must be comparable to a US bachelors degree or higher from a college or university regionally accredited/recognized by the Ministry of Education in that country.

A minimum cumulative grade point average equivalent to at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (B grade) is required for admission
