International Year One in Engineering, Computing and Statistics will prepare you to enter your next semester of a bachelor’s degree program at George Mason University. Upon successful completion of International Year One and meeting university requirements for undergraduate admission, you may enter your next semester of undergraduate study at George Mason University. This transition from an INTO Mason program to a university degree program is called progression.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Academic requirements: High school diploma; 2.5 minimum GPA equivalent. Age requirements: 17 years and above.

For international students

Academic requirements: High school diploma; 2.5 minimum GPA equivalent.

Age requirements: 17 years and above

This International Year One 1-Semester Pathway lasts six months and is designed for students who already have a higher level of English.

English language requirements: TOEFL iBT 75, IELTS 6.0, PTEA 52, Completion of Academic English Core and OCS Level 5 or higher, or IELA 176 overall (169 subscores in reading and writing).

This International Year One 2-Semester Pathway lasts 12 months and is designed for students who have a moderate level of English.

English language requirements: TOEFL iBT 60, IELTS 5.5, PTEA 44, Password 6.0 in Knowledge and 5.0 in Writing, Completion of Academic English Core and OCS Level 4 or higher, IELA 162, or Duolingo 50.

This International Year One 3-Semester Pathway lasts 18 months and is designed for students who need a more intensive English-language program.

English language requirements: TOEFL iBT 50 (10 all subscores), IELTS 5.0 (4.5 all subscores), PTEA 41, Password 5.0 in Knowledge and 4.0 in Writing, Completion of Academic English Core and OCS Level 3 or higher, IELA 154 (147 all subscores), or Duolingo 45.
