What will I learn?

Marine Science is a field which encompasses many traditional disciplines including biology, geology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. The program recognizes the intrinsic interdisciplinary nature of modern marine science and the necessity for cross-disciplinary, graduate-level training through a program which brings together 47 marine faculty located in nine departments on campus. The program emphasizes the understanding of the ocean as an integrated system. Students conduct research in areas such as biological, chemical, and physical oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, marine biology, paleoceanography, marine optics and remote sensing, ocean engineering, and marine policy.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Students must have a paper-based TEOFL score of 550.

For international students

To be considered for admission to UCSB, applicants must have received a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better) from an accredited university prior to the quarter for which admission is sought.

TOEFL scores 550 Paper-Based Test (PBT), 80 Internet-Based Test (IBT) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Overall Band score of 7 or higher (if applicable).
