This program consists of 30 credits and has a thesis option. If the student chooses the thesis option, it is necessary to sign up for and pass STAT 698 for at least 3 credit hours of MS research, culminating in an oral defense with the advisory committee.
If the student does not choose the thesis option, an oral examination is required. The oral examination may consist of the presentation and discussion of a published paper chosen by the student and the Chair of the student's M.S. advisory committee. No credit is given for the oral examination. In the case that the student has accumulated three points from the qualifying examinations, the oral examination may be waived.

Applicants are ordinarily expected to hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing prior to registration, and should have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or higher. Three-year Bologna bachelor's degree recipients are eligible for admission.
The minimum Internet-Based Test (iBT) scores required for admission are the following: Writing 18; Speaking 18; Listening 14;Reading 19; Total 80
The minimum paper-delivered section requirements are the following (overall score is no longer reported): Reading 19; Listening 14; Writing 18
IELTS - An overall band score of 6.5 is required for admission with the following minimum section requirements: Reading 6.5; Listening 6.0; Speaking 6.0; Writing 5.5
