What will I learn?
The M.A. (LRC) program focuses on theory, research and practice in language, literacy, biliteracy, youth literature, and culture, encouraging inquiry to examine critical issues within teaching and learning. We are a diverse community of internationally recognized faculty with a commitment to equity, access, and social justice. Our programs include literacy acquisition, sociocultural theory, Indigenous education, heritage-language revitalization, the study of households and community settings, children’s and adolescent literatures and literacy, science and mathematics education, environmental learning and sustainability, curriculum theory, classroom organization and management, and teacher education and development.The Language, Reading & Culture master’s program focuses on theory, research, and practice in language, literacy, and culture, encouraging critical inquiry to examine sociocultural issues within teaching and learning. A wide range of courses and experiences are available around focus areas, including children’s and young adult literature, bilingual education and English language learners, diversity and social justice, early childhood education, literacies for a multicultural multimodal world, and Indigenous education and language. Courses are offered on-campus in late afternoon/evening with some hybrid and on-line course options. You can select or design a focus area that aligns with your interests and goals.
