What will I learn?

The Master of Arts in mathematics education deepens and extends secondary school mathematics teachers’ understanding of mathematics and its learning and teaching. Through a focus on both theory and practice, this program enables teachers to strengthen their classroom effectiveness, to assume leadership roles in curriculum and instruction and, if so desired, continue with doctoral study in mathematics education.

Entry requirements

For international students

Admission to this curriculum requires a bachelors degree with at least a secondary teaching minor in mathematics, equivalent to that offered at Western, and fifteen hours of undergraduate work in professional education or its equivalent.

Minimum English proficiency test scores:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): 80 iBT

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic: 6.5

Pearson Test of English, Academic Module (PTE): 54

Michigan English Test (MET): 57
