What will I learn?

The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is a three-year professional graduate degree. It is the traditional ministerial degree for those looking to become ordained and serve in a religious setting. At Union, however, the vocation of ministry includes other forms of service as well, such as chaplaincies at universities, hospitals, or prisons; professional counseling; secondary school or university teaching; and careers in business, law, government, journalism, nonprofit work, or other professions.

The M.Div. is a full-time program that requires 78 credit hours, including 40-44 credits in core distribution requirements in the fields of Bible, Church History, Theology, Practical Theology, and Interreligious Engagement.

Students will choose one of four possible pathways to fulfill degree requirements:

  • Ministerial Leadership
  • Anglican Studies (Episcopal Divinity School at Union)
  • Islam & Interreligious Engagement
  • Buddhism & Interreligious Engagement
