The fields of mental health, human services, and crime and justice are becoming increasingly interdependent. Our dual-degree program seeks to bridge the existing gaps between these sectors to ensure you have a solid foundation in each area. Your crime and justice courses will allow you to explore the causes, contexts, and policies that can lead to or exacerbate mental illness. In your counseling courses, you'll learn to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals and groups with various mental health issues.This dual-degree program will help you quality for Massachusetts licensure. You’ll complete the mental health curriculum full-time, and may pursue the crime and justice studies curriculum full- or part-time.The Sociology & Criminal Justice Department offers undergraduate and graduate courses in topics such as Youth in American Society, Women and Crime, and Restorative Justice. Our Department is home to the Center for Women's Health and Human Rights, The Women and Incarceration Project, Our Bodies Ourselves Today, and a variety of other exciting projects and programs.Suffolk's ideal location in downtown Boston makes it easy to gain first-hand experience in the city's many distinct neighborhoods and communities. Our Department's faculty and students are interested in a wide range of social issues and apply their skills in Boston-area schools, prisons, shelters, and communities dealing with crime.
