Your Master of Science in Statistics at the University of Houston-Clear Lake offers you a balance of statistical theory and statistical methods and applications. We will provide you with the fundamental tools and conceptual foundations in quantitative reasoning for making advances in the sciences, decisions in industries and development and implementation of government property.

If you have a background in mathematics, science, engineering or any major with a related background, this degree could be suitable for you. Earning your Master of Science in Statistics from UHCL will prepare you for a position in the federal government doing data analysis, conducting scientific research for a private company or assisting technology firms with “big data” efforts. As part of your degree, you can choose from two specializations: Applied Statistics; Big Data Analytics.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Applicants will be considered for admission to University of Houston-Clear Lake, if they have earned bachelor's degrees or higher (as applicable) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and are eligible to return to the last institution attended. 

For international students

Undergraduate degree in Math or Statistics; Students with an undergraduate degree in Engineering, Science or other field will be considered if the preparation includes an adequate number of upper-level credit hours in Math and Statistics with 3.0 GPA.

Proof of English Language Proficiency

Your minimum scores must be: 550 on the paper-based TOEFL exam; 79 on the TOEFL (iBT) exam; 6.0 on the IELTS exam, 53 on the PTE exam; or, You can successfully complete level 112 in the ELS Intensive English Language program.
