Columbia University’s Master of Science in Strategic Communication program provides you with a comprehensive foundation for a successful career in a wide range of communication fields. Our graduates develop all of the essential skills required to become emergent leaders in a new era of communication.

The Master’s Program in Strategic Communication embraces a scholar-practitioner approach to learning where you will learn both classical and modern approaches to communication and apply them through simulated and real-world scenarios.

The program’s wide and varied range of electives gives students the opportunity to take classes at the School of Professional Students outside of the program and elsewhere at Columbia. Through their elective selections, students can craft a path of study aligned with specific interests and objectives.

Entry requirements

For students from United States

Other English Language Requirements:  The minimum TOEFL score expected is 600 (written) or 250 (computer version).

For international students

Applicants must have Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better and Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis, English fluency, and the ability to write clearly, concisely, and convincingly, using proper grammar and 0-10 years of professional experience in a communications role. Most applicants to the Full-Time option have 0-5 years of relevant work experience, which may include internships. Successful candidates with less than 2 years of full-time professional experience have strong internship experience.

Applicant must have minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 100 (Internet-based test) and minimum IELTS score of 7.0
