Hallmarks of this multidisciplinary doctoral program are small class sizes with students from around the world and renowned professors from diverse backgrounds. Doctoral candidates choose from one of the following tracks: History, Islamic Studies, Linguistics of Middle Eastern Languages, Middle Eastern Literary Studies and Socio-Cultural Studies. The curriculum - one of the few in the country to offer extensive language training in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and Turkish - focuses on the geographic region extending from Morocco to Afghanistan and includes the Arab world, Iran, Israel and Turkey. Coursework covers everything from art and architecture to media studies and political science.

Hold a BA or MA with a 3.0 GPA (cumulative GPA or last 60 semester units if your undergraduate GPA is lower than 3.0 cumulative; graduate GPA will be taken cumulative only)
