What will I learn?

Master of Science in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) students learn to teach the English language. The degree is a multi-disciplinary program involving study in the fields of English, linguistics, education, anthropology, American studies, human communication studies and psychology. It focuses on training English as a Second Language (ESL)/English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers of adult second-language learners of English at adult schools, private and public colleges and universities, and elsewhere. Graduates may pursue doctoral studies or work as instructors in adult and community college ESL programs. Some graduates work as resource specialists and program coordinators, while others have taught or trained teachers abroad. Students receive personalized attention from the program’s dedicated faculty advisers to determine their best paths.

Entry requirements

For international students

You are eligible to apply as a graduate student if you have earned a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree.

In addition, the candidate must have a 3.0 grade-point average in the major and a minimum 2.7 GPA in the last 60 semester units attempted.

TOEFL: 550 or 80 iBT

IELTS: 6.5

PTE: 58
