Maynooth University is located 25 kilometres from Dublin, in Ireland. The institution is an internationally esteemed ‘young’ university, with a rich heritage, that offers an excellent learning experience. It was ranked 43rd in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 rankings. Approximately 14,000 students, call Maynooth home, representing 95 nationalities. This makes up for a 17% International student population. In addition, 15 per cent of full-time undergraduates are disabled and 28 per cent are from targeted socio-economic groups.
Students can choose to study a full undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Maynooth. Students can also opt for a semester or summer school. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) assessment allows easy transfer into other global credit systems.
There are 34 academic departments within three faculties, covering science, engineering and social science, the arts, languages, and philosophy. The departments all offer degrees at undergraduate, masters and PhD levels. Undergraduates benefit from the flexible learning system, where they have the power to choose subject combinations across different departments. Maynooth University also offers many one-year taught master’s degree programmes, several of which include internships.
The campus features eight research institutes that conduct pioneering work. Two Nobel Peace Prize winners have been among Maynooth University’s alumni and staff.
Maynooth’s International Office provides support for more than 1,000 students. Staff understand what it’s like to study overseas, and they can help with a variety of issues such as pre-arrival questions, immigration and visas, opening a bank account, and more.
The university is based in the centre of the only university town in Ireland, Maynooth. It provides all the resources needed to study, and students can use their spare time to explore the fascinating country of Ireland. The country offers a warm welcoming experience as well as stunning coastlines, castles and countryside. Maynooth is also close to industry giants where the university has formed strong links with global businesses.
Maynooth University is doing all it can to ensure students are safe during their studies. International students are encouraged to apply to the university, even if there are travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Students can now also submit their scores for the Duolingo English test as proof of their language proficiency, as IELTS and TOEFL exam centres have been temporarily closed. Students will need a minimum Duolingo test score of 110, which is equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.5. More information can be found on the COVID-19 Info Hub.
As part of the campus redevelopment plan a brand-new Student Centre is being built, that will open in early 2021. It will be a home for everything related to student life, including the Students’ Union. It will also be a hub for student clubs, societies, events and social activities. The centre is designed to make the student experience at Maynooth an even more special one.
Maynooth University is known as one of the top new global universities, it was ranked 43rd in the Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 rankings. It is also ranked 301st, recognised as one of the world’s top 500 universities (Times Higher Education Rankings 2021).
Teaching at Maynooth is centred around helping students become special graduates who are highly employable and educated to question, analyse, reflect, think critically, act creatively and contribute positively to society. Maynooth University has three main faculties with 34 academic departments.

Applicants to business degrees will also need 6.0 in both the reading and writing components.
Those applying to the MSc in Immunology and Global Health will need an overall IELTS score of 7.0 with 7.0 in writing and 6.5 in other components.
Postgraduate research full-degree students will need to contact a potential academic supervisor before submitting a formal application.
Those who are unable to meet the language requirements may be offered the summer pre-sessional English language programmes.
The campus is spread over a large, spacious area with rural surroundings. It’s home to grand, historical buildings as well as modern teaching and support facilities.
The library is based within an eco-friendly building that’s designed to have little impact on the environment. It consists of more than 850,000 eBooks, 460,000 print publications, 95,000 ejournals and 300 databases. There are computers, private study areas, group study spaces and AV facilities.
Facilities for sports includes a fitness center, sports halls, a fully-equipped gym, natural turf playing fields, and more.
A new Student Centre is set to open at the beginning of 2021. It will be focused around student life, where the Maynooth Students’ Union (MSU) will be based, as well as be a hub for events, social activities, clubs and societies.
International students have a number of accommodation options. This includes on-campus residences which feature dining and lounge areas, laundry facilities, fully equipped kitchens and many with bedrooms designed with en suite bathrooms.
Maynooth University offers a range of scholarships. This is to encourage and reward achievement for both current and incoming students. Students are encouraged to look at what is available as well as any deadlines and eligibility requirements.

There are three sanctuary scholarships for the 2020/21 academic year. These are for international protection applicants and refugees. The support on offer provides tuition fee waivers, an access package of support, orientation programme, technology support, academic advising, pre-paid transportation, a laptop, and more. University accommodation is not included.
