Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) started out as the School of Agriculture in 1931, located on a 22-acre piece of land in Serdang and offering two programmes: a three-year diploma programme and a one-year certificate course in Agriculture. The establishment of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) came about as the result of a merger between the College of Agriculture in Serdang and the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Malaya. UPM takes care to ensure that the content of the programmes it offers is in accordance with the requirements of the current job market. Academics aside, UPM is also about making friends, studying hard and playing hard. There are a range of associations and clubs operating across the university, faculties and residential colleges, which provide a supportive network and help students settle into university life and meet like-minded people.
