Why AUT
Auckland University of Technology (AUT) offers more than 250 courses in subjects ranging from engineering and health sciences to art and design and business. AUT is spread across three campuses in Auckland, New Zealand and prides itself on being the number one millennial university in Australasia and ranks within the top 60 universities under 50 years old. Auckland itself was ranked 23rd in the QS Best Student Cities Ranking, receiving a high score in areas such as quality of living and having a large student community.

O'Neil Nelson, a student of Master of Engineering at Auckland University of Technology, has been recognised with two awards for his educational excellence in New York and Jamaica. O'Neil won the first place in the Jamaica JTCE Educator of the Year Award and was bestowed the accolade in a ceremony last year. O'Neil hails from Jamaica and received a NZAID scholarship, which is administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in New Zealand. He finished his thesis at the Auckland University of Technology’s School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences.
In recent rankings announcements by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, AUT has moved into the top one per cent of universities worldwide for the fourth time consecutively.
AUT ranks 1st in New Zealand and 27th globally for its International Outlook, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.
International outlook rankings are made based on the university’s ability to attract international staff and students, and on how well they collaborate with overseas universities and engage with them.
Times Higher Education has ranked the university 51st among the world’s top young universities, based on the quality of its research, teaching, international outlook, citations, and industry income.
AUT is also among the top millennial universities in the world (founded in the 21st century), being ranked 14th internationally and first in Australasia.

The Faculty of Business, Economics and Law offers students world-class education in a number of undergraduate as well as postgraduate qualifications, preparing them well for business, economics as well as research careers or law practice.
Auckland University of Technology’s Faculty of Culture and Society provides students with a wide range of programmes such as social sciences, languages and education, as well as a diverse and rich research profile.
The Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies’ faculty is home to five discipline areas: architecture, creative technologies, communication, art and design, engineering, and computer and mathematical sciences.
The university’s Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences provides students with a wide range of programmes as well as a research profile that is diverse and rich, spanning areas including health, sports and science.
IELTS is the English language test required for most of the health science degrees. It is also the preferred English language test for all the other AUT qualifications. The scores required for several of the university’s degrees include:
An overall score of 5.5 with all the bands at 5 or higher.
Depending on the diploma chosen, either an overall score of 6.0 with all the bands at 5.5 or higher, or an overall score of 5.5 with all the bands at 5.0 or higher.
An overall score of 6.0 with all bands at 5.5 or higher.
An overall score of 6.5 with all bands at 6.0 or higher.
An overall score of 6.5 with 7 in writing as well as all other bands at 6.0 or higher. Engineering, computer and mathematical sciences require a writing band of 6.5.
Postgraduate programmes including master's degrees, postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, as well as bachelor’s degrees with honours require an overall score of 6.5 with all bands at 6.0 or higher.
Students who are interested in travelling while they complete their AUT degree can complete one or two semesters at one of Auckland University of Technology’s partner universities with an international study exchange.
Studying abroad can change students’ lives and they will have the opportunity to meet new people, immerse themselves in another culture, as well as obtain international experience. They can also cross credit the points they receive to their degree at AUT as well as continue their studies when they return to New Zealand.
