Overview

The La Trobe Law School offers students an innovative, high quality legal education with a strong commitment to social justice and interdisciplinary enquiry. At the School, which is La Trobe University students would be equipped with a global perspective, helped by local and international staff with extensive teaching experience, and benefit from open-door policy and a real emphasis on practical experience.

The University, which is one of Australia's pioneering universities for almost 50 years, emboldens students with a strong tradition of professional engagement. The School’s academic staff produces expert research across a wide spectrum of areas, including commercial law and taxation, criminal law and justice, and family law. The School’s expertise provides students with insights into current issues in legal practice, public policy and law reform.

Blended Learning

Blended learning is a mix of face-to-face and online learning. It involves thoughtful, innovative, integration of face to face learning experiences with online learning experiences. The focus is based on the interactions between teachers, students and resources that assist students to achieve intended learning outcomes.

La Trobe Law Students' Association (LSA)

It organises educational, career and social events for students as well as several public lectures every year. The LSA also publishes several online resources for law students every year.

Student Learning

The Student Learning Unit aims to ensure that all students – including those from non-English-speaking backgrounds – have access to tools for developing high-level academic speaking, writing, reading, and numeracy skills required for successful learning in their course.

The School actively promotes socio-legal and interdisciplinary research that delivers effective outcomes for the private, public and non-profit sectors.

The La Trobe Law School's core research strengths include Access to Justice, Human Rights and International Law, and Law and Society. The staff of the La Trobe Law School edits internationally renowned scholarly journals that advance knowledge in the legal community, including Law in Context and Global Change.
