Overview

The UQ engineering and computing learning spaces are some of the most innovative in the world, and its programs focus on the business environment, so students can make better decisions in class and in their career. The University of Queensland has one of the most comprehensive, hands-on engineering degrees in Australia, and its IT and computer science degrees will enable students to develop solutions to society’s most demanding issues.

More study options for greater career opportunities

With a greater selection of majors, UQ prepares students for the jobs of the future. Students now have the opportunity to complement their engineering specialisation with a major in one of the new and emerging areas of engineering. They gain technical expertise, and sharpen their critical thinking and research skills to find answers to pressing questions. There are also 21 dual degree options available within computer science, engineering and information technology.

Engage with industry

Many students undertake professional practice while they complete their studies. UQ maintains a strong engagement program with organisations such as Boeing, Deloitte, Energex, Ernst and Young, Google, Lend Lease, the Queensland Government, and Rio Tinto – who are located at UQ’s St Lucia campus.

Work anywhere

UQ qualifications are internationally recognised, allowing students to work anywhere in the world. Students can find work in research, development, design, manufacturing and operations within engineering firms, IT corporations, government, companies, consultants and non-government organisations. Or they can come up with their own entrepreneurial idea, and use the resources available at UQ’s Idea Hub to start their own business.

“I’ve always had a passion for marine life and felt this course with a major in marine science would help me better understand the issues threatening marine biodiversity. As a marine science major student, I chose this university for my bachelor degree as UQ is known for its exceptional research facilities and supportive advisors who can offer insights into various areas of interest in the science field. Furthermore, with research stations located on North Stradbroke Island and Heron Island near the Great Barrier Reef, students can visit a wide range of places to carry out research projects and to gain valuable skills and experiences.” show less

“UQ has had an excellent global reputation in the area of agriculture for a long time. The four year Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) program is structured in a way that equips students with substantial knowledge in different disciplines of agricultural science. Brisbane is a really warm and pleasant city with plenty of friendly and helpful people. As an agriculture student, I spent my first three years at the Gatton campus - a peaceful and stimulating place. Living in Gatton has provided me with many opportunities to explore, enjoy and appreciate the nature around campus (especially bird watching). Now I am in my final year at the main St Lucia campus. St Lucia offers me a very different study environment to Gatton; there are more students here and it is closer to the city. However, both campuses offer an excellent quality of teaching and facilities. Most of the lecturers and staff are very friendly and approachable. I also really enjoyed doing some of the genetics courses. If prospective students are interested in doing genetics related programs, UQ is definitely the place to be.” show less
