Overview

The University of Queensland’s (UQ) Faculty of Medicine is an internationally recognised provider of world-class education and research. It supports diverse learning opportunities for the equivalent of 4,000 full-time students, including 2,600 undergraduate students, 700 postgraduate coursework students, and more than 800 students undertaking a higher degree research.

With two research intensive schools, medical education, and five hospital-based institutes and centres, the Faculty of Medicine is well positioned to link the pre-clinical and clinical sciences with population and global health.

Global standing

UQ Medicine is the leading provider of education and research in Queensland and has the largest selection of medical programs in Australia. The faculty was ranked 30th in the world for Life Sciences and Medicine in the 2018 QS World University Rankings by Subject.

It is also ranked number one in Asia Pacific in Public Health in the ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in 2018. Its internationally renowned research centres and institutes combine modern infrastructure with a culture that champions research excellence. Its work has already led to discoveries with far-reaching social and economic impacts, including the Gardasil vaccine for cervical cancer.

Accreditation standards

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is accredited by the Australian Medical Council, which means it meets the highest standards of medical education in Australia. The faculty’s teaching and research is supported by more than 2500 academic title-holders and experts from different disciplines.

International Public Health accreditation

This program is the first in the Asia Pacific region to achieve Curriculum Validation from the Agency for Public Health Education Accreditation, which confirms the curriculum adheres to European standards and contains the structure and core content expected from a comprehensive Master of Public Health program.

“UQ has had an excellent global reputation in the area of agriculture for a long time. The four year Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) program is structured in a way that equips students with substantial knowledge in different disciplines of agricultural science. Brisbane is a really warm and pleasant city with plenty of friendly and helpful people. As an agriculture student, I spent my first three years at the Gatton campus - a peaceful and stimulating place. Living in Gatton has provided me with many opportunities to explore, enjoy and appreciate the nature around campus (especially bird watching). Now I am in my final year at the main St Lucia campus. St Lucia offers me a very different study environment to Gatton; there are more students here and it is closer to the city. However, both campuses offer an excellent quality of teaching and facilities. Most of the lecturers and staff are very friendly and approachable. I also really enjoyed doing some of the genetics courses. If prospective students are interested in doing genetics related programs, UQ is definitely the place to be.” show less
