Overview

Established in 1923 as the South Park Junior College, Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas is home to over 17,000 students. The university is among the fastest growing colleges in the state of Texas and is a member of The Texas State University System. Lamar University offers more than 120 degree options and an educational community that cares. The university is nationally recognized for its quality curriculum at the bachelor's, master's and the doctoral levels. The university is divided into five undergraduate colleges, one graduate college, and an honors college. Lamar provides ample opportunities for undergraduate research. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and is one of 29 public universities recognized as a Carnegie Doctoral Research University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
