Eye opening

The most important would be: live your life to the fullest. It may be a cliche but don't get drowned by assignment and stress. Just go out, explore Melbourne, and have fun!

Worthwhile pain

Join clubs, have a life, but also study hard. Might seem like a waste right now, but there’s light in the end of the dark tunnel.

awesome and stressful

UoM is a very awesome university! nice facilities (fast internet and lots of libraries) and the teachers/lecturers are very helpful and nice. You can make an appoinment with them or email if you have questions! Lectures are always recorded (although some subjects, esp math subjects, aren't). However, you need to catch up with the subjects as there's only 3 months in one semester.

First overseas study experience

I totally enjoyed my first semester at University of Melbourne; the environment was different but very welcoming as everyone were really friendly. Coming from a place where classes were only held within the four walls of the classroom, it was definitely refreshing to have classes held in the open (e.g. grass patches). Lecturers/ Tutors do more than just teach; they encourage and push beyond just the basic knowledge but to ensure that students understand the reasons behind what they are learning.

The advice I would give to anyone looking to come here to study would definitely to keep an open mind because every thing, even minute things, is really just a whole new experience to learn and enjoy.

A whole new life

Studying abroad especially in University of Melbourne let me have a whole new different experience. It let me to learn different cultures from different parts of the world, know how to deal with different types of people and learn how to be more independent. In university life you have to join as much as possible of university event and be part of the event, and dont forget to make friends and take the benifit of the cultural diversity in campus to learn as much as possible because life experience is much more important and more applicable.

Motivating environment

Students at the university, especially those studying arts are highly motivated and always vocal in both lectures and tutorials. Those who are from Asian background, like myself, who are not familiar with such environment will sometimes feel intimidated at the start but my advice would be to not being afraid of making mistakes in front of the mass and just speak up. Such environment will eventually shape you into a person with solid opinions and this will definitely help you in the future.

Stimulating Learning Environment

Studying in the University of Melbourne means that I can collaborate with some of the best and most enthusiastic students and academics to further advance myself and make myself more capable to pursue my dream future.A degree like the EMA can help me to be a more well-around person with practical managerial skills, as well as sound ethics, creative thinking, and critical thinking abilities. I believe the skills learnt in the EMA can give me more work flexibility and take me to more places.
My favorite subject in the EMA so far is Project Management. The major project I did for it included writing a business proposal and creating a detailed budget and execution plan. I think, the project management, budgeting, and writing skills that I learnt from this subject will be useful for my future career.
What I enjoyed the most about studying at the University of Melbourne is the intellectually stimulating and collaborative environment formed by the academics and students. To me graduating from the University of Melbourne means I will have the world as my stage, on which the knowledge I learnt, and the causes I’m passionate about, will be transformed into reality in the near future.

Fascinating learning experience

The best part of the course would have to be the group of students and lecturers who make up the program. It’s a nice change to actually have a class of people that you not only know, but who also share your passion. Various projects have also allowed me to meet second year students as well as my own year, which has helped me to feel a part of a larger community. It has been a fascinating learning experience just asking people what they are interested in, as many students come from diverse backgrounds and are quite knowledgeable about their interested field. The staff members are also a great source of knowledge, not only about ethics and materials, but also about the industry. As all the lecturers are still practicing professionals they are able to draw upon their own experience often citing current projects.

Inspiring Learning Environment

I chose the University of Melbourne for graduate study because of its great rankings and reputation back home in Taiwan. Moving to Melbourne was a tough and scary decision, but the city’s fusion of the vintage and the modern in terms of architecture really drew me in. The course advisors at the university were also really helpful on how I could plan out my degree, and the staff and professors were all very encouraging and approachable; I really came to love the university and the city from then on. My advice for new international students is: everyone here is friendly and always willing to give a helping hand, so don’t be afraid to ask for help!

What I enjoy the most about studying at The University of Melbourne is the feel of the campus each time I walk in. With each season that passes the ambience and atmosphere changes, splashing different colours to it (especially South Lawn with the clock tower in the background). I also love being with a community of students and professors that are eager to learn and inspire each other; and like the university’s motto – dare to dream large.
