The standards are incredibly high

I recommend that aspiring composers go to some of the hundreds of productions Hartt students and faculty present every year. Seeing my colleagues’ work was one of the most important things I did at the University. The standards are incredibly high, so it is extremely rewarding to see and listen to what others are performing. I also traveled throughout Connecticut and to Boston and New York as often as possible to attend concerts.

Writing always came in little bursts for me. Before I attended Hartt, I was very haphazard in the way I went about things and much of it was guess work. Now I am proud of what I’ve created. Of course we all want to have that one concert work that sticks in the cannon for years and years and we become known for, so that gives me something to strive for.

University of Hartford experience invaluable

Improv comedy is something that has changed the way I look at life. It has been a key catalyst in my college career. To pursue further training, and even comedic writing, I will be heading to Chicago to take classes with the teachers in the improv epicenter of the United States, while also pursuing a graduate study in communications and behavioral sciences.

The opportunity to get involved with a student group like Stop Laughing Mom, combined with the knowledge I have gained and the mentoring I have received as a communication major studying human communication, journalism, and media, has made my University of Hartford experience invaluable. I really feel as though it was tailored exactly to what I wanted out of an education.

Fantastic opportunities

I have had many fantastic opportunities while I have been here at the University of Hartford. Last year, I was able to travel to Bermuda over spring break with the Barney School of Business to meet with different insurance companies. It was a great experience and I am thankful that I was able to go.

One thing I love about the United States is that every city and state has something different and unique, which is fascinating. The thing I miss most about Kuwait is my family. Luckily, my sister is now attending the University. She arrived as a freshman in September and now I can see her every day!

Great experience with professors at the Hartford Art School

After graduating in 2012, I spent nearly a year in Moscow as a Fulbright Scholar, creating artwork based on the history of pre-World War I Russia. After a brief return to New England in the fall, I returned to Moscow to begin a public art project.

I will live in a glass house outside the Moscow Museum of Art for a month and complete one painting a day based on images from television and newspapers. I want as many people as possible to see it so I will set up webcams for those who cannot visit the museum. It’s also a social experiment. I want to show people that we are responsible for creating history.

I have loved art for as long as I can remember. I started painting at an early age and by the time I was 12, I had exhibited across the globe and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the Youngest Professional Artist in the World. My pieces are in the collections of former President George W. Bush and the president of Azerbaijan.

Although I was an established artist before I went to college, I am always looking to learn. At the University of Hartford, I had the opportunity to take challenging academic classes in the Barney School of Business and in the School of Communication while also learning more about art. I gained the knowledge I was looking for and had a great experience with professors at the Hartford Art School and other schools within the University

One of the most respected music schools in the country

I came to the United States in 2008. I chose to get an advanced degree from the University of Hartford because its Hartt School is one of the most respected music schools in the country.

In addition to studying at Hartt, I am member of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA). We perform throughout North, Central, and South America. As a member of YOA’s Global Leaders Program, I am learning what it takes to lead social initiatives through music, a mission in which I deeply believe.

Music can change a person’s life. To be a student of any instrument you have to be disciplined and focused. If you reach children when they are very young, you can instill these values in their lives.

After I receive my degree, I plan to return home to teach. I want to make a difference. The University of Hartford is giving me the tools to make a difference in Brazil.
