Great time studying in the University of Sheffield

It was a great experience. I loved the programme, the city and life there. I met so many friends during a year of my Masters, always so many events and societies. Studies were challenging, yet interesting. I learn so much new, and studying in University of Sheffield definitely helped in my career.

AMAZING

I think the most important thing is to get out there and try as many things as you can in Sheffield and what the university offers as a list is not comprehensive of the amount of activities that you can do. In addition, do not be shy and meet as many people as you can as you may never know, you may make friends for life. I would also suggest that you keep on top with your work as though there are many activities you can get involved in, your number one priority should be your health and studies.

You will remember the North.

I'm still wishing I can go back, and this is a year after returning to my home university. Ideally, if managed well, the program at the University of Sheffield is set up so that you produce the highest possible quality of work. Also, faculty members and professors are all very friendly and want to help out. The vibe given off by the city itself is what I miss the most, and I don't think it can be replicated by any other city. I can't really describe it, but if I'm yearning to be back a year later, it has to be something special. Furthermore, having this international schooling experience on your CV has raised some interesting questions from job interviews, which is a perk. Overall, I'd definitely recommend a trip overseas.

There is more than Oxbridge: The University of Sheffield

Every time we read about British Universities, we immediately think about the University of Oxford and Cambridge University. However, as international students looking to succeed in our own specific research and work fields, we need to think out of the box and focus on the best research institutions on that area. By this time, if you have properly looked for information about the best universities in the UK, you know what I am trying to say.

At the moment, I am studying a PhD in Politics at The University of Sheffield, one of the best 100 universities in the world and top 10 in the UK. But why did I choose Sheffield instead of another one? Firstly, in my specific area of study, in terms of research, the Politics Department of the University of Sheffield is the joint number one in the UK f (alongside the University of Essex). Considering its entry standards, level of student satisfaction and graduate prospects, Sheffield, Oxford, LSE, UCL and Warwick are the best 5 Politics Departments in the UK. Throughout my Master and current PhD studies, I have been able to learn, interact and coordinate some seminars with leading researches in Politics, such as Prof. Matthew Flinders and Prof. Martin Smith. Furthermore, different from other universities, due to its perfect size and students intake, each one of the postgraduate students enjoy a direct, personalized and professional relation with members of the staff, which helps you to solve your doubts, obtain guidance, improve your research and expand your network of contacts.

Thus, what I am trying to say is that even though we immediately think about two or three universities in the UK, it is important for you to look for those specific departments that will give you the best of knowledge, experience and contacts in your preferred area of study. As each one of us are not perfect in everything, neither are universities. Therefore, my best advice would be do not go with the flow, do some research, choose the best and succeed.

...much, much more than that!

Shelby Foote, an American historian and novelist, once said: “a university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library”. Little he knew that a university could be much more than that. The University of Sheffield is much more than that.

Ranked in the top 100 in the world and ten in the UK for research, it has the third largest number of departments rated 'excellent' for teaching and an award-winning Students' Union. Additionally, it was voted joint first for social life in the UK and was voted as the university most students would recommend to a friend. But the University of Sheffield is much more than that because it is a melting pot of cultures; because it welcomes everyone equally; because it is a place where one grows; because it gives you the best time of you life; but above all things because it inspires students to be better everyday.

Come to sheffield and make the most of uni life.

University life of Sheffield is excellent. There is a brilliant balance between work and play with numerous social venues to choose from to meet up with friends. Sheffield university also boasts quite a few studying areas including libraries and quiet social areas around the students' union building. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.
