Studying aviation at UniSA

I graduated from UniSA this February (2020) and the three-year journey has been incredible with UniSA. As an aviation student, I enjoyed my degree because of all different courses we had. Throughout my three years, I had the opportunity to meet people within the industry who had been in the industry for many years. Most lecturers had personal stories to share with us during our lectures. Moreover, simulator sessions have been my favourite. In my first year, I had Aviation practice which was a simulator session on the Cessna, first year second semester I was able to get 20 hours of flight experience and then in my last year I got the opportunity to fly the 737 simulator as a part of our course. We were taught how to fly the simulator, full checklist, how to enter waypoints, use of autopilot, takeoffs, landing and to fly from one airport to another. During assessments, we were tested on our decision making, knowledge, checklists and communication as a Captain and as a first officer. Over the three years, I have learnt important skills and values such as the importance of good communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, active listening and time management. Furthermore, in 2019 as I was studying, I was also able to start working as an International Student Ambassador at UniSA. Being able to talk and meet new students and to help them out with their doubts has helped me to improve my skills and values continuously. Therefore, my overall experience with Unisa has filled me with great memories.

Engineering at UniSA

Studying at UniSA has been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. As far as teaching is concerned, there is focus on both the theoretical and practical applications throughout all subject units. All engineering disciplines have their dedicated labs, for instance, since I am studying Electrical and Electronics, there are dedicated electronics labs and a Power Systems Lab as well. Not to forget, the academic staff is very professional and responsive to student queries. In addition, I was briefly involved in a student club known as UniSA Motorsport which designs an electric racing car for one of the national university competitions which I found exciting. The final year honours and capstone courses also helped me to apply what I had learnt to real-world industry projects and connect with industry professionals as part of the course. Overall, I would definitely recommend studying at UniSA

Studying Architecture at University of South Australia

Studying Bachelor of Architectural Studies at the UniSA has been a very rewarding experience. I am very happy with my decision to study here. The courses at UniSA are have a great balance of theoretical and practical components which directly translates to industry requirements. For instance, through the Design and Construct elective I’ve got the opportunity to work on a real-life architectural project. Not only are there well-equipped workshop spaces, the university also has an on-campus Architecture Museum which makes studying here more enjoyable. The teaching and university staff are extremely helpful and supportive. During the pandemic, they went out of their way to make us feel supported and not let it negatively impact our well-being or learning. There was a quick transition to online options for both courses and student support services. At UniSA, there are also a lot of events and activities on-campus which is a great way to be involved in the broader university experience. Overall, I have loved my experience here and would recommend it.

My experience of 2 years at UniSA

I am currently in my Final semester of Master of architecture program. These 2 years were amazing, I have learnt so many new things, design softwares, construction techniques and laws. After my first semester, I got an opportunity to work with U-city on a research project. In my third semester, as a part one elective course, I went on a study tour in flinders mountain ranges where we got a chance to build some utility buildings. That was an amazing experience for me. 2020 has been tough for most of us, but UniSA helped me cope up with it quite well. Apart from studies, I have taken part in various activities organized by the university like, student fairs, Unitopia, etc. Pridham hall and student lounge are still my go to places.

Studying at UniSA

Choosing to study at UniSA was one of the best decisions I have ever made. One of the best parts of being in UniSA Business School is that I am guided by my study plan to choose subjects for each semester, decide which class times I would like to attend and enroll accordingly. My flexible timetable allowed me to take on casual jobs and participate in events organised by UniSA’s clubs and societies. It was helpful to know that if I couldn’t attend a lecture, I could watch the recordings. Tutorials and workshop classes are also structured to focus on students’ involvement and contribution. Outside class, there’s plenty of help to ensure students get enough support to complete their courses successfully. Apart from studies, UniSA Business School organises various events and programmes to ensure the students are given enough opportunities to develop holistically. Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience at UniSA.

Career Oriented and Focuses on Practical work

I'm a final semester student, pursuing Masters in Data Science. I found UniSA as a very career oriented university. The assignments are based more on practical work rather than theoretical. Also, they carry more weight than the exam itself. In this way, I got to learn more by doing plenty of assignments throughout the semesters and never got stressed out about the exam. Moreover, the capstone professional project course in my degree enabled me to gain industry experience right before I graduate. The university also has a dedicated job portal for students called "UniSA Career Hub". I found my internship through this portal and there is plenty of volunteering, casual, part-time, and full-time job opportunities advertised which is good for both domestic and international students looking for work. Lastly, Adelaide itself is a very affordable place to be in, so I think I made the right decision to come here for Masters.

My review of UniSA

I am a final year of my Bachelor of IT (Software Development) degree at this University. I've really enjoyed my experience here and the uni has great resources to engage student learning.

The IT faculty and teaching methodologies are very good with heavy focus on practical assignments.
For example, most of the programming assignments are quite fun as they are about building games and user interfaces. I feel that these assignments are a better way to learn a computer technology, as we are putting the theory learnt into practice.
Mawson Lakes campus is peaceful and provides a great study environment: it has the sports, gym and student lounge on campus that can be accessed on weekends. I spend a lot of my time on campus due to the great facilities that are here.
I have been able to get a summer internship through the Careerhub, one of the many great students services that UniSA has to offer.
Overall, I enjoy the IT program here and would recommend it to a future student.
