Why Coventry University?
Student Tanmaya Sharma travelled from India to study a BA (Hons) in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Coventry University. He was so happy with the innovative facilities that he came back to study an MSc in Investment Banking. This is what Tanmay had to say of his Coventry experience:
“My undergraduate course at Coventry was the number one in the entire UK and taught me the importance of due diligence and compliance, which back home it is not taken as seriously. Modules like Personal Entrepreneur and Development gave me hands on practical experience I enjoyed going out hustling and selling things in the city.
After my BA (Hons) degree I pursued a steady career in financial analytics at multinational giant, American Express in Northern India. For me, Coventry University was the best place to give me that chance to stand out above the rest. The goal is to open up my own hedge fund. Staying in Coventry means I would have access to the Bloomberg terminals, and I can maybe look at employing some students. I’ve had call-backs from employers just because I have access to Bloomberg and Thompson Reuters Icon software. Coventry really gave me a multicultural view of life. This helped me going back to India and taking calls from people in the USA, Bahrain, and Australia because it has helped me build client relationships.
I have also published a book which is called ‘The Making of a Recession’, in which I am writing in detail how and why we’re going to have the next financial crisis.
Coventry University is attracting the best of the best from India and so those entrepreneurial people go ahead and make something of their life and some bring the skills home again. In my opinion Coventry is educating the future leaders of India and I personally believe Coventry University is one of the best.”
Coventry University has an excellent teaching reputation. It recently gained a gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a standard set by the UK government, as well as being awarded five stars for teaching excellence by QS Stars 2018.
Teaching excellence is combined with practical experience to prepare students for professional careers. Students will work with world-renowned researchers, and the university is known for research which tackles global issues. The focus of its research areas falls under five categories:
Alongside the opportunity to research and study these innovative specialisations with expert researchers, students are also given the opportunity to gain practical experience.
From a moot room at the Coventry Law School to operating rooms, a midwifery suite and therapeutic treatment rooms at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, students gain practical experience which will help them to achieve their career goals after leaving university.
The university also houses the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, a project which brings together academics, researchers, librarians and technologists to find the best ways of teaching and learning, and then put them into practice across the university.

Coventry University has a rich heritage of developing talented artists and designers. As the oldest part of Coventry University, the faculty now boasts specialist resources and state-of-the-art technology, recognising changes in the arts and preparing students to become talented professionals. The faculty includes the School of Art and Design, the School of Humanities and the School of Media and Performing Arts.
Located in the heart of Coventry, the faculty includes the School of Computing, Electronics & Mathematics, the School of Energy, Construction & Environment and the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Automotive Engineering. Its specialist research centres, including the Centre for Fluid & Complex Systems and the Centre for Manufacturing & Materials Engineering, allow students and staff to research pressing global issues, while also developing valuable skills for future employment.
The faculty consists of the School of Life Sciences, the School of Psychological, Social and Behavioural Sciences and the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health. With a brand-new campus building, students learn in state-of-the-art facilities, including hospital simulation and exercise environments. The faculty has an excellent reputation for graduate outcomes.
Made up of the Coventry Business School and Coventry Law School, the faculty offers a number of specialisations. Coventry Business School specialises in Economics, Finance and Accounting, Marketing and Management, and Strategy and Leadership, offering a range of research and academic programmes alongside industry experience. Coventry Law School’s specialisations include International Law and Oil, Gas and Energy Law. Students have access to the Moot room, to practice in a realistic, modern courtroom during their studies.
Entry requirements vary according to the region an applicant is applying from, and what course they are applying for. The accepted entry requirements and their levels can be found, according to country of application.
For most undergraduate courses, students will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent English qualification, and they will be asked to provide evidence of their English language test on application.
For students who wish to top up their English language skills, Coventry University offers pre-sessional English courses so that students can gain the required level of language skills to move on to their undergraduate or postgraduate courses. It can help better prepare students for the demands of academic study, and is also an excellent opportunity to meet other international students who are looking to study at Coventry University.
Coventry University is offering a number of new scholarships to international students in 2019. They understand the financial challenges of studying abroad, and subsequently offer hundreds of scholarships of different values, up to GBP 5,000, and covering a wide selection of eligibility criteria. The centre of student life on campus, TheHub includes a food court, local shop and the Students’ Union, a perfect social space for students. It also includes the Health and Wellbeing Centre, which features centres for disabilities, counselling and mental health services alongside the Medical Centre. There is also a Spirituality and Faith Centre, a non-denominational chapel and Muslim prayer rooms. Finally, the Hub is home to the career’s services team, who help students find the right place for them after graduation.
The university has a range of accommodation available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is also developing new accommodation to make sure it can continue to meet student demand, investing £89m between 2016 and 2019 in new accommodation such as The Cycle Works, Bishopgate and Godiva Place. There is also a Residential Life programme in all FutureLets accommodation which schedules events and social occasions throughout the year to help students connect.
Based over five floors, the recently-refurbished Lanchester Library features world-class facilities offering excellent resources. Students have access to the IT Service Desk and eLearning Unit, the Centre for Academic Writing, and photocopying and printing facilities. They can also explore the 6,000 strong DVD catalogue or borrow one of the 50 laptops. The library is open 24/7 during term time for student use.
Just across from TheHub, the Sport Centre is home to the university’s sports clubs, both competitive and recreational. Students are also able to join Coventry Sport and Recreation Centre, based within campus, to access gyms and classes.
