DMUIC students will receive specialist support and teaching during their programme so that students can successfully progress onto their chosen degree at De Montfort University.
In 2017 an independent review of the college by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) highlighted the effective way staff support the specific needs of the international students.
The review noted two key features as good practice, with mention being made of the manner in which staff support students according to their unique needs. The QAA review stated that DMUIC facilitated the professional development of staff by providing extensive training, development and mentoring activities. This included a comprehensive induction programme orientating staff within the college and contextualizing the needs of students.
Further, the review acknowledged the annual teaching observation initiative that sees the quality of teaching closely monitored. Programme leaders evaluate all tutors, which helps them develop as educators and the process also ensures that teaching is aligned with and supports learning opportunities.
DMUIC effectively uses the DMU’s quality assurance processes to monitor and enhance the student learning experience at the module and programme level. DMU has also demonstrated excellence in teaching by winning the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) gold award in 2017. The university has received 18 National Teaching Fellow awards in recognition of exceptional teaching to date.
DMUIC is a supportive and welcoming campus for international students coming from across the world, representing 60 different nationalities. DMUIC students will benefit from DMU’s proactive approach to improving student experience by introducing consultative positive changes. The #loveDMU campaign updates students on the improved services and support available to them.
Two levels of study are offered at DMUIC: the International Incorporated Bachelors (IIB), and the International Incorporated Masters (IIM). The IIB offers students an alternative start to undergraduate study at DMU, strengthening their English abilities and introducing basic concepts and key knowledge required in their chosen subject area. The IIM provides students with the advanced subject skills and English language needed to study at postgraduate level.
DMUIC delivers the first stage of the IIB for students. There are two routes:
Students will study the IYZ at DMUIC before continuing to year one of a chosen degree at DMU. Students can choose from the following courses:
Students will study the IFY at DMUIC before continuing to year two of their chosen degree at DMU. You can choose one from the following routes:
This programme is for international students with a qualifying diploma wishing to gain an undergraduate degree in the UK. The programme is offered over 10 weeks (One Term) or 20 weeks (Two Terms). Once students have successfully completed the pre-top up programme in Business they will continue directly into final year of degree study with DMU.
The IIM is stage one of a postgraduate degree at DMU. The IIM has been specially designed to offer students extra support for postgraduate studies.

Each route is either one or two terms, depending on a student’s level of English.
DMUIC has listed academic entry requirements for available programmes. These requirements are indicative only and subject to change. Each application is dealt with on an individual basis.

Students with a lower IELTS will be required to complete a six week or 12-week pre-sessional English programme.
