About GSA

As one of the leading Art Schools in the UK, The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) offers an environment in which difference is encouraged and diversity of background and approach is valued. The school ranked 8th in the world, 5th in Europe and 3rd in the UK in the 2021 QS World Rankings.

Study at the GSA is done through one of its five schools: Architecture, Design, Fine Art, Innovation or Simulation and Visualisation. The focus of all courses is studio practice, with students being encouraged to develop their own ideas and experiment.

All students, whilst developing their own work independently, will benefit from valuable one-on-one time with tutors. Courses also include lecture time, library research and "crits" time when students work in groups with tutors to analyse and explain their work.

International students at the school come from over 79 countries. The school welcomes more than 90 students from its exchange and study abroad partners, who each, in their turn, further contribute to the international dimension of its learning experience.

As a relatively small institution, and one that is very focused, GSA is a creative community, situated in the centre of the city of Glasgow. Students are encouraged to engage with Glasgow which becomes more than just the city in which to live. It becomes a source of both inspiration and research.

Glasgow is voted one of Britain's top-five student cities. International students will find Glaswegians friendly, and the city is renowned for offering a warm welcome.

So far, GSA has been lovely: there is a feeling of support for innovation and freedom and discover, encouragement of exploration, reflection and potential mistakes that makes me feel bold and spread my sight in directions I wouldn't have found without it. While I understand independence, willingness to ask for things and self reliance are given qualities a GSA student has to have, I wish tutors were more present in course work and there were more skill-based mandatory work and not just opportunities. Again, however GSA is whatever you make of it. Everything is there - skilled tutors, workshops of every kind that can be used if you sign up for an induction, contemporary technology and always encouragement. Also - I adore the library. show less
