Leeds Beckett University offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as specialised courses for English language and university preparation. All programmes have a focus on making students highly attractive to future employers.
Leeds Beckett has a variety of courses that help students improve their qualifications and English language ability, most of which are accredited by the British Council. The university’s pre-sessional courses are completed before students start their course in September or January.
For students whose first language is not English, the International Foundation Year equips them with the necessary English language ability and subject-specific knowledge to study an undergraduate degree in the UK.
Successful completion of a pre-sessional course will meet the English language requirement of Leeds Beckett University for courses requiring IELTS 6.0 or 6.5, so students will not need to take an additional IELTS test.

In 2020 the university’s new GBP 45 million Carnegie School of Sport building was completed. This new facility is home to dedicated research laboratories, a 60-metre indoor athletics track, a nutrition teaching kitchen, high-performance strength and conditioning facility, a human movement research laboratory, two environmental chambers and a Performance Analysis Lab.
In 2021 the university’s GBP 80 million School of Arts building opened. It is packed with the latest specialist facilities, including professional TV, film and music recording studios, a performance theatre and Dolby Atmos movie cinema.
In 2022, the university’s GBP 9 million Clinical and Multiprofessional Skills Suite and Biomedical Sciences teaching laboratory opened. The Biomedical Sciences teaching laboratory is home to a 60-person laboratory, a tissue culture site and new state-of-the-art equipment. The Clinical and Multiprofessional Skills Suite contains two ten-bed hospital wards and a fully immersive three-bedroom hospital simulation space housing three simulation manikins.

If a student’s first language is not English, they will need to submit evidence of their English language ability. Carnegie Sports Centre offers an extensive range of high-quality sport and fitness facilities including tennis courts, a swimming pool, fitness suites, sports halls and a running track. Sport science students have access to specialist science laboratories and equipment including cardio-respiratory analysis, DXA bone scanner and an anti-gravity treadmill.
The performing arts facilities include black box rehearsal and performance studios, equipped with theatre lighting and sound systems, and access to professional dance studios at Northern Ballet’s newly built Centre of Dance.
